Possible Severe Storms in UK today.
by Alister on Jul.06, 2009, under Weather Blog
Parts of the UK may see some severe storms today. The most at risk area is the Southern Midlands, parts of Wales and South Central areas. There is a small risk of severe thunderstorms producing hail, strong gust winds and even a very slight risk of tornadoes. I will be watching this situation and may have to go chasing this afternoon.
Quiet Season Turns to Active Season
by Alister on Jun.13, 2009, under Weather Blog
Well after a very quiet couple of weeks at the end of May and early June the Tornado season is being particulary active at the moment. My colleges over at Silver Lining Tours intercepted a great tornado on June 5th in Wyoming.
I also see that due to the lack of storms in May Vortex 2 has managed to get additional funding to extend the project for a few more weeks. They have already made a couple of successful intercepts, but are still lacking some of the data they really need.

Here we go.
by Alister on May.06, 2009, under Weather Blog
So here I go. Months of planning and preparation, camera shake downs in the Arctic and Iceland and a week of packing. I’m at the airport, checked in and ready for the dull flight to Chicago and then to Oklahoma City. Lets hope the kit all arrives on one piece! The weather outlook is good, there will be plenty of chase opportunities from the moment I land, but starting from around Tuesday next week things look set to really hot up. Lets hope it pans out and I get to capture a photogenic Tornado in 3D HD.
Weather Outlook for Great Plains
by Alister on Apr.26, 2009, under Weather Blog
With just a little less than 10 days before I depart for tornado alley I thought I would look at the forecast models. Certainly the next few days are going to be very active with several days of severe weather across the plains. Today and tomorrow look like big tornado outbreak days. Looking further ahead I think we will see 5 days of pretty active weather before things quieten down for a few days. Then a further round of severe weather looks likely to start some time around may 6th. Of course looking this far ahead with computer models is never accurate but I had to look anyway. can’t bear sitting here seeing a major outbreak on-going and not being able to go due to existing work commitments.
Could be a rough ride! Damn, missed a chase opportunity.

Well after having to re-book my flights to be sure of getting in to Vegas today and not tomorrow due to the flight from the UK being delayed by 3 hours I’m now wondering if I shouldn’t have spent the evening in Houston after all. A quick look at the weather charts shows a reasonably good chance of severe storms from Oklahoma down to Houston, could even be a tornado or 2. I could have gotten a little storm chasing in this evening before continuing to Vegas tomorrow. Oh well, instead I will be packed in like a sardine on the flight to Newark from where I will connect down to Vegas. Might be a bumpy trip down to Vegas as we will have to cross the area where storms may form this evening.
