Video and Photography Tours

Would you like to take amazing pictures of dramatic weather and spectacular natural events? I run a number of tours throughout the year aimed primarily at photographers and videographers but also suitable for anyone with a sense of adventure. I take small groups to some amazing locations where they will have the opportunity to take once in a lifetime pictures. If you are not a professional or don’t regard yourself as a good photographer don’t worry. I will help you get the most from your equipment and can advise on most still and video camera related issues. These trips are real adventures, as a result itineraries can and do vary according to local conditions. When we stay in hotels we try to stay in nice ones, but sometimes we end up staying in less than perfect accomodation.

Lightning04 smOne of the most popular tours is to Arizona for the Desert Monsoon storms that produce incredible lightning storms. Because the storms form over the desert the visibility is excellent, which makes for good lightning pictures and video. In addition the Monsoon season is very reliable with storms forming most days. As well as lightning over the desert there are often amazing storms over the city of Tucson with many of the cities building getting struck by forked lightning. The 6 day Arizona Monsoon Lightning Photography Expeditions are held between late July and the end of August. The cost is £980 excluding flights to Tucson.

MarkNL1Another popular trip is to a very remote location near the town of Karasjok in Arctic Norway to see the Northern Lights. We fly to Tromso, spending the first night there before traveling by car and ferry across the Fjords and along frozen roads to Alta the second night is spent in Alta. Both Tromso and Alta offer good opportunities to see the Northern Lights, but clearer skies and total darkness can be found on the far side of the coastal mointains. From Alta we drive to the remote town of Karasjok (the capital of the Sami people). From Karasjok we travel up into the mountains by snow mobile where we establish our base camp in some hiking cabins. The remote location means that there is no light pollution to spoil the dark skies and the location in the mountains means more clear, cloud free nights. This is a true adventure tour. You can expect to experience true arctic conditions while enjoying local cooking and exploring the area by snowmobile during the day. These are 6 day trips and I run them between the beginning of January and early March. The cost is £1,100 per person excluding flights to Tromso. Flights can be picked up cheaply from Norwegian.no their version of Easyjet.

TornadoPic4Spring is Tornado season and from May through to the end of June I run short “On-Call” tornado chasing trips to tornado alley. These trips are only run when the weather pattern is favorable for tornadoes and extreme storms. You can expect to see incredible cloud formations, giant hail stones, deadly lightning and with luck tornadoes. As well as the storms these tours tend to be mini road trips. A typical day of storm chasing involves a lot of driving, often 500 miles or more, criss-crossing many Mid West states. States such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, Nebraska and Iowa. This is all part of the adventure, visiting small towns, seeing the vast Great Plains and following in the footsteps of Cowboys. Typically these trips run for 4 days and cost around £800. If there is enough interest I can also run longer trips. If you spend 10 days or more on the Plains in May or June you can almost guarantee that you will see weather that will take your breath away. The beauty of a 10 day or longer trip is that you can set the travel dates well in advance. A 10 day trip would cost £1,400 plus flights.

Please contact me for further details on any of the above. I can tailor expeditions to suit your needs. If you have a group of 3 or more I can often run an exclusive trip just for you and your friends. For one-to-one trips or groups of 4 or more please contact me for a quote.
