UK battered by wind and rain.

Well as I am sure many of you will be aware this past weekend has seen some truly dramatic rainfall totals, especially in the North of England and Cumbria where there has been extensive flooding leading to the collapse of several major road bridges and the sad death of a police officer who was assisting the public when a bridge he was on fell into a river.
Yesterday there was a small tornado reported near Derby, whether this was a true tornado or another type of wind event such as a microburst is not clear at this time, however whatever it was it did do a lot of localized damage. Further south a van driver was killed when a tree crushed his van and a woman had a lucky escape when a tree fell on the shed she was in.
The forecast is for further rains and high winds today and tonight and looking further ahead there looks to be extended periods of wind and rain over the next week, possibly longer.
